Rosacea Treatment

Some people may notice that their skin has become very sensitive or that they blush easily before they notice other symptoms of rosacea. Usually a combination of prescription-strength topical medication (lotion, cream or gel) and oral medication (pill, capsule or tablet) are used to treat rosacea symptoms. Common topical medications include oral antibiotics. Oral antibiotics are prescribed more for their anti-inflammatory properties than to kill bacteria. The ocular rosacea may be treated with oral antibiotics or steroid eye drops. The duration of your treatment depends on the type and severity of the symptoms. Enlarged blood vessels, some redness and enlargement of nose often become permanent. In such cases, surgical methods (laser surgery and electro surgery), may reduce the visibility of blood vessels, remove tissue buildup around your nose and generally improve your appearance. Many alternative therapies — including colloidal silver, emu oil, laurel wood, oregano oil and vitamin K — have been touted as possible ways to treat rosacea.
